Cannon
tl;dr:
An encapsulation, in list form, of those things that have most shaped me. A sort of annotated bibliography of influences.
Taking a page from Brendan Schlagel, I’ve wanted to start canonizing the things that are super critical to me and have shaped my thoughts, works, and opinions over the years. These are some of my favorites:
- Out of the Inner Circle – This book really shaped my love of computer security (and computers in general).
- Extreme Privacy: What it takes to disappear – This guide is the bible in my eyes when it comes to securing your online privacy, and I use this book religiously when speaking about privacy.
- OSINT: The Authorative Guide to Due Dilligence – This book is one of the few that really opened my eyes to the world of Open Source Intelligence
- bash Cookbook: Solutions and examples for Bash Users – This book started my journey for shell scripting.
- Addiction by Design: Machine Gambling in Las Vegas – This book talks about the psychology involved in building addictive gaming systems and UI elements; great if you want to learn about the psychology behind the ‘gamification’ of apps.
- My full life: Reflections at ninety – Jimmy Carter’s Autobiography.
- My own words – RBG’s Autobiography.
- My Life – Bill Clinton’s Autobiography.
- A Promised Land – Obama’s Presidential memoir.
- The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World – Alan Greenspan’s memoirs.
- The Art of War – How I learned to negotiate in a corporate world.
- Coming Out: An Act of Love – Reading this book solidified my stance on being an ally for those who are LGBTQ+ back in the late 90’s.
- American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House – Biography about Andrew Jackson
I also regularly keep my Librarything up to date. This lists the books that I’ve purchased and when I’ve added them to my library.
