iStatMenus, or, lessons in leaving autoupdate turned off
I’ve been a fond user of iStatMenus for a long time – I’ve been using them on my macbooks for at least 3 years; I generally keep autoupdate turned on for my applications on my mac – just do it automatically, I’ll deal with the config changes later. I do this because I’d rather deal with the consequences of a broken config later…
…until someone does something stupid like this:

Clicking on the uninstall button leads to a screen where you’re prompted to install an additional helper.
I’m slammed with work, so, I literally have zero clue on what the helper does…but, I swear to everything that’s holy, if it’s a reminder for me to try iStat Menus again in the future, I’m going to shit a brick.
